The Commonwealth Government have committed funds for a new commuter car park in Panania. The ideal site is the current council car park in Tower Street opposite St Christophers primary school and church. This has access from both Tower Street and Sherlock Avenue which would be of great benefit during school drop of and pick up.
The existing carpark has a capacity for 52 cars but could be expanded to approximately 200 if a 4 story car park was constructed. Quality public toilets, so badly needed in Panania, could be included. Roof top solar panels linked to battery storage would create a renewable energy power station. I have listened to local business owners who argue that a carpark here would be a boon to the local economy in Panania.
A caretaker position and accommodation could be included in the design of this project to provide a sense of safety and security both day and night. I have discussed this proposal with the office of local Federal MP Mr David Coleman.
